Hypermarket refrigeration installation
An integrated installation for storing, displaying and distributing fresh and frozen products
A complete refrigeration installation for a hypermarket in Oued Souf, with 12 chilled cold rooms and 6 frozen cold rooms of 70 tonnes each, refrigerated display cases, and air conditioning for the work room, airlocks and loading and unloading areas. The solution was designed to maintain the cold chain from goods receipt to storage and sale, with conditions suited to the products, staff and logistics operations.

Background and client needs
For a new hypermarket in Oued Souf, the client needed a complete refrigeration infrastructure for receiving, storing, preserving and displaying fresh and frozen products at fully controlled temperatures.
The project includes 12 chilled and 6 frozen cold rooms of 70 tonnes each, a total storage capacity of 1,260 tonnes. The installation also had to include refrigerated display equipment and air conditioning for the site’s sensitive areas.
Given the heavy flow of goods and frequent openings between areas, particular attention had to be paid to controlling heat exchange at the airlocks and loading and unloading areas. The aim was to maintain the cold chain while keeping working conditions comfortable and suited to the hypermarket’s daily operation.
FRIGO INDUS was therefore asked to design a complete solution covering the refrigeration, air-conditioning and logistics needs of every area.
Our work
FRIGO INDUS carried out the technical study, heat-load calculations, sizing and design of the whole installation. Our work included the supply and installation of 12 chilled and 6 frozen cold rooms of 70 tonnes each, with the associated refrigeration equipment and connections.
The solution also included refrigerated display cases on the shop floor, designed to maintain the required storage conditions while presenting products as retail requires.
FRIGO INDUS also air-conditioned the work room, airlocks and loading and unloading areas. These spaces were treated to limit temperature variations, reduce warm-air ingress during goods movements and improve operating conditions.
The work was completed with the supply and installation of insulated panels, assembly, refrigeration and electrical connections, commissioning, testing, adjustment and optimisation.
Project highlights
The main challenge was to guarantee an unbroken cold chain along the entire product journey, from receipt to storage and display. The installation had to handle chilled and frozen storage at the same time, as well as the large heat-load variations of a hypermarket.
Frequent door openings, goods movements and air exchange between areas could generate significant heat gains. It was therefore essential to control conditions at the airlocks and loading areas to preserve cooling performance and temperature stability.
The project also had to meet staff comfort requirements and provide suitable conditions in work areas, while presenting products reliably and attractively in refrigerated display cases.
FRIGO INDUS designed a complete refrigeration solution with 12 chilled and 6 frozen cold rooms of 70 tonnes each, a total storage capacity of 1,260 tonnes. It was sized from heat-load calculations and the specific operating conditions of a hypermarket.
Refrigerated display cases keep products at the right temperature directly on the shop floor. The loading and unloading areas and airlocks were also air-conditioned to limit thermal disturbance from goods movements and repeated openings.
The work room was fitted with air conditioning suited to internal loads and operating conditions, keeping the environment comfortable and stable for staff.
This installation is a complete refrigeration solution covering all the hypermarket’s needs, with 1,260 tonnes of storage split between chilled and frozen rooms. This layout allows flexible management of products and adapts to storage and stock rotation needs.
Temperature control in the cold rooms, display cases, airlocks and logistics areas preserves product quality and keeps the cold chain intact. The specific treatment of loading and unloading areas also limits heat gains and improves overall efficiency.
With this integrated design, FRIGO INDUS delivers a reliable, high-performance solution suited to retail requirements, combining product preservation, energy efficiency, user comfort and continuous operation.
