New chilled cold rooms for potato storage in OUAHIGOUYA

As part of our ongoing commitment to the development of agriculture in Burkina Faso, we recently completed a major project: the design, installation and commissioning of a cold store with three cold rooms dedicated entirely to potato storage. This project illustrates our technical mastery of refrigeration and the importance we place on our clients’ satisfaction and trust. With this new 3,000-tonne cold store, we are directly helping to improve the agricultural value chain and reduce post-harvest losses.

Potatoes are now a strategic product for many producers and traders in the country. Growing year-round demand requires suitable infrastructure to preserve their freshness, texture and quality.

In a climate where ambient temperatures regularly reach 40°C to 45°C, robust, high-performance chilled cold rooms are essential for reliable, lasting storage. We designed these chilled cold rooms precisely to provide stable, fully controlled and cost-effective storage conditions.

Technical expertise for an innovative cold store

The technical parameters used in designing these chilled cold rooms reflect our expertise and in-depth knowledge of potato storage requirements.

To ensure optimal storage, we built in:

• A controlled storage temperature of 2°C to 6°C, so the chilled cold rooms suit both table potatoes and seed potatoes
• Internal humidity of around 90%, essential to prevent drying out and minimise weight loss,
• A product intake temperature of 25°C, with fast, even cooling that brings the temperature down in steps of 1 °C per day across all the chilled cold rooms
• A storage density of 250 to 300 kg/m³, ensuring optimal air circulation in the chilled cold rooms

These parameters ensure perfect preservation and maintain the quality of the products stored in the chilled cold rooms. Every technical detail was carefully studied to deliver a durable, energy-efficient installation that is easy to operate.
