Fish processing and freezing plant

A complete refrigeration solution for chilling, freezing and storing seafood

A complete refrigeration installation for an industrial fish processing unit, with 10 frozen cold rooms, 2 blast freezing tunnels of 8 tonnes, 2 ice plants of 8 tonnes each and air conditioning of 2 work rooms through textile ducts.

The solution was designed for fast chilling and freezing, reliable seafood storage and continuous cold-chain control.

The solution delivered

Background and client needs

The processing unit needed a refrigeration installation able to handle the high heat loads of fish processing, while ensuring fast freezing and long-term storage.

The main challenge was to bring product temperature down quickly after processing, to preserve quality, freshness and physical characteristics.

The installation also had to provide large, continuous ice production and suitable conditions in the work rooms.

Our work

AFRIC FROID carried out the heat-load calculations and sizing, and designed a refrigeration solution suited to the unit’s needs. The work included 10 frozen cold rooms, 2 blast freezing tunnels of 8 tonnes each, and the supply and installation of 2 ice plants of 8 tonnes each. AFRIC FROID also air-conditioned 2 work rooms through textile ducts, supplying and installing the refrigeration equipment and insulated panels. The work included assembly, refrigeration and electrical connections, commissioning, adjustment and optimisation, as well as a system for monitoring and controlling operating parameters.

Project highlights

What was the client's challenge?

The client had to ensure fast, even freezing of the fish while keeping frozen storage areas at a stable temperature.

It also needed large ice production matched to the processing rate, and air-conditioned work rooms suited to staff and processes.

What solution was proposed?

AFRIC FROID installed an integrated solution with 2 blast freezing tunnels of 8 tonnes for fast processing, combined with 10 frozen rooms for long-term storage.

Two 8-tonne ice plants supply the ice the process requires. The two work rooms are air-conditioned through textile ducts, for even air distribution and temperature.

What are the benefits of this installation?

The solution freezes fish quickly and evenly while preserving quality, texture and freshness. It ensures a continuous, controlled cold chain and large frozen storage capacity. On-site ice production means ice is always available for the process, and textile-duct air conditioning distributes air evenly in the work rooms. The installation is also designed for large load variations, with the reliability and continuity that intensive industrial production demands. It improves control of hygiene and storage conditions and can grow with future production increases.
