Frozen storage cold rooms in Abidjan
Two frozen cold rooms at –20 °C for storing meat and fish
Turnkey delivery of two independent frozen cold rooms in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for storing meat and fish at –20 °C.
The installation was sized for Abidjan’s tropical climate. Its two-stage capacity system matches cooling output to actual demand and enables the client to save more than 50% on energy.
Address
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

The solution delivered
Background and client needs
The client needed to store large quantities of meat and fish at sub-zero temperatures in a particularly demanding environment: Abidjan’s climate combines high temperatures with high humidity.
The project had to guarantee reliable storage, meet hygiene requirements, keep operating costs down and reduce the risk of downtime, which is critical for such sensitive products.
Our work
AFRIC FROID built two independent rooms, sized from a precise thermal study: 38 °C summer ambient, 70% relative humidity, a storage density of 200 to 250 kg/m³, products entering at –10 °C and units running 11 hours a day.
Several compressors run in parallel at two capacity levels: reduced load during peak hours, then full load off-peak to reach the –20 °C set point. Each room is served by several evaporators, and the equipment is redundant to ensure continuity of service.
The whole system is monitored remotely by a Danfoss AK-SM central management solution.
Project highlights
The client had to store meat and fish at –20 °C in a hot, humid climate, with an installation that is reliable and economical to run.
Two independent frozen cold rooms, with parallel compressors at two capacity levels, redundant equipment, several evaporators per room and Danfoss AK-SM monitoring.
Energy savings of more than 50%, better volume management, stable temperatures, immediate alarm detection and full data traceability.
